    Oxygen Therapy in Intensive Care
    Dr Swapnil Pawar

In our landmark 100th episode, we discuss the controversy around one of the most commonly used drugs in intensive care, i.e. Oxygen. In this episode, we dive deeper into the available evidence and recommend our approach for using oxygen in critically ill patients.

In this episode, we discuss the following landmark RCTs-

  1. Oxygen ICU
  2. ICU-ROX
  3. HOT-ICU
  4. LOCO2
  5. HYPRESS2

Our recommendation –

Oxygen is a drug. In general, conservative use of oxygen therapy is recommended, and hyperoxia must be avoided. However, in certain subgroups of patients, such as septic shock and ARDS, liberal oxygen therapy might be beneficial.
